The construction of the student residence in Vaasa has been completed in December 2024. The 28 apartments of Wolffintie 24 are close to the Palosaari campus area.
This high-quality A energy class building has been constructed with exceptional attention to energy efficiency. The airtightness value of 0.4 is below the passive house standard, reflecting the building’s quality and sustainability.
The building is equipped with a building automation system, ensuring optimal energy use and indoor conditions. Each apartment features a dedicated indoor climate sensor that measures temperature and humidity, enabling precise monitoring and adjustments to maintain a comfortable living environment.
The Vaasa Energy Business Innovation Centre and the Student Housing Foundation in Vaasa (VOAS) equipped all apartments with a home/away switch, allowing tenants to reduce ventilation when they are not at home, further enhancing energy efficiency.
In addition to providing students with energy-efficient housing, this demo site aims to encourage the community to adopt more resource-efficient habits. A mobile app and stairway display allows tenants to monitor the building’s overall energy and water consumption. Efforts are being made to further develop the system to enable apartment-specific monitoring in app in the future.
The newly built energy class A building allows for a 30% energy savings compared to older residential buildings. With the mobile app, students are further guided to reduce their energy consumption by up to 5% and water consumption by 20-30%.
