EnergyVista Wins Italian Project Award 2025: A People-Centred Model for Sustainable Urban Energy

the EnergyVista app, developed by Planet Smart City within the EU-funded ProLight project, has been honoured for its measurable impact on energy efficiency and resident engagement in Milan’s Urbana New Living district.

ProLight is proud to announce that EnergyVista, the residential energy management application developed by the project partner Planet Smart City, has been awarded the Italian Project Award 2025. The award recognises outstanding contributions to innovation and sustainability, celebrating EnergyVista’s success in turning advanced energy analytics into real, resident-driven results.

Putting Residents at the Centre of the Energy Transition

EnergyVista was designed to do more than monitor kilowatt-hours. Within the ProLight demonstration district at Urbana New Living in Milan, the app helps residents understand their consumption patterns, see the financial impact of their habits, and receive personalised recommendations to improve efficiency.

This approach reflects ProLight’s core principle that technology alone is not enough. Lasting change happens when residents are informed, engaged, and empowered to act. Through dedicated Citizen Labs and ongoing support from community managers, EnergyVista became part of a broader process of co-creation that listened to residents’ needs and adapted solutions accordingly.

Measurable Impact in Milan

The results speak for themselves. Over a two-year period at Urbana New Living:

  • EnergyVista was implemented in 15% of households
  • Participating homes achieved a 12–18% reduction in energy consumption
  • Residents reported a better understanding of their energy bills
  • Sustained participation was maintained throughout the pilot

These outcomes demonstrate that when digital tools are combined with active community engagement, the potential for energy savings and behavioural change is significant.

A Replicable Model for Europe

EnergyVista’s success in Milan offers a blueprint for other social and affordable housing districts across Europe.

By integrating:

  • Advanced energy analysis
  • User-friendly digital interfaces
  • Continuous resident education and feedback loops
  • Co-creation through Citizen Labs

…the ProLight project has shown that inclusive, people-centred innovation can drive the urban energy transition forward.

Celebrating Partnership and Community

This award celebrates the work of Planet Smart City and the broader ProLight consortium, co-funded by Horizon. Europe. Yet the true winners are the residents of Urbana New Living, whose participation turned innovation into measurable impact.

As ProLight moves into its final phase, EnergyVista stands as a testament to what can be achieved when technology, policy, and community work hand in hand toward a more sustainable and inclusive future.
